The Technical Centers Provide:

Finite Element Analysis

• LS-DYNA3D and Altair HyperWorks for pre and post processing.

Dynamic Physical Testing

FMVSS / CMVSS (Pendulum and Flat Barrier), IIHS Bumper Barrier, Allianz (15 km/h offset), Lower Leg Pedestrian Testing, Pedestrian Head Impact Testing, High-speed Video with Data Aquisition.

Shape’s Technical Centers are equipped with a UTV (Universal Test Vehicle) with suspension and steering, barrier wall and classical pendulum testing devices. The UTVhas multi axis load cells, capable of measuring the force and moment in all three planes. Three different high-speed video cameras are strategically placed to capture different perspectives and aid in analysis.

Static Physical Testing

• Material Testing, Product Testing, Fatigue, FMVSS214 Component Level Tester, Static Bumper Crush Fixture.

Shape’s Technical Centers are equipped with an Instron UTM (Unitersal Test Machine). The UTM is used for testing the mechanical properties of material and can be fitted with text fixtures for other static compression/tension tests.

Metallographic Laboratory

• Inverted Microscope (100x Magnification), Stereo Microscope (57x Magnification), Digital Image Analysis, MIG and Spot Weld Analysis.

Product Prototyping

• Laser Cutting, Brake Press, Plasma Cutting, MIG, TIG, Resistance welding, Shear, Bridgeport Mill.

FEA/CAE

The CAE department uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA), LS-DYNA3D and Altair HyperWorks software tools to analyze and predict performance of components.
